Hotel & Spa Wasserschloss Westerburg

The 4-star superior Hotel & Spa Wasserschloss Westerburg is surrounded by a park of approximately 5 hectares and enclosed by a water-filled moat. As the oldest and best-preserved moated castle in Germany, and an architectural landmark of the Romanesque Route, it is counted among the more than 80 most important monuments in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Since 2000, the partially more than 800-year-old walls of Wasserschloss Westerburg have housed 57 individually furnished hotel rooms in three different categories, a restaurant, various event and conference rooms, and a wellness area.

With the historic Knights’ Cellar, the Count’s Administrative Chamber, and the Prince’s Hall and Mirror Hall, the castle offers a variety of venues for celebrations with up to 80 guests. Civil, church, and non-denominational wedding ceremonies are possible in the Baroque castle chapel dating from 1681.

A total of seven conference rooms of various sizes are available for meetings. Breakout rooms for up to six people or conference facilities for events with up to 100 participants can make use of state-of-the-art conference technology while enjoying the comfort of the hotel.

Throughout the year, a changing program of public events is offered, such as the Medieval Banquet in the historic Knights’ Cellar or the Westerburg Cultural Summer in the large castle courtyard—a series of open-air concerts and theatre evenings featuring the Nordharz Municipal Theatre Association. In addition to regular guided castle tours, individual guided tours for groups of eight or more people can also be arranged.

The à la carte restaurant Princess Marie Pauline, with its adjoining south-facing terrace by the moat, is named after a former owner of the castle, Princess Marie Pauline, the favorite sister of Napoleon Bonaparte. Like the approximately 1,200 m² wellness area, it is open daily with no closing day and is also available to day visitors.

The wellness area is divided into the Gallery Spa, featuring an indoor swimming pool (18 × 6 × 1.35 m) with an integrated whirlpool, counter-current system and massage jets, experience showers, and an indoor gallery, as well as the Romance Spa with a Finnish sauna, bio color-light sauna, heated plunge pool (6 × 4 × 1.35 m) with cascade shower and counter-current system, heated relaxation bench, Kneipp foot bath, and a sun garden.

Both areas are open daily to day guests from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. By prior arrangement, a spa visit can be combined with a relaxing massage or a beauty treatment in the beauty farm.

In the evening, the Romance Spa or the Gallery Spa can be booked exclusively as part of the “Blue Lagoon” experience from 9:30 p.m. for 90 minutes. Accompanied by cozy music and candlelight, a bottle of sparkling wine or wine, chocolates, and snacks are provided. This offer is available daily—for couples as well as for small groups.
